Classic Tomato Sauce

A versatile and flavorful tomato sauce that pairs well with various dishes.
Ingredients:
- canned whole peeled tomatoes - 800 grams (28 ounces)
- onion, diced - 1 onion (1 onion)
- garlic cloves, minced - 3 cloves (3 cloves)
- olive oil - 30 milliliters (2 tablespoons)
- dried oregano - 2 grams (1 teaspoon)
- dried basil - 2 grams (1 teaspoon)
- salt - 2.5 grams (0.5 teaspoon)
- black pepper - 1 gram (0.25 teaspoon)
Instructions:
- Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
- Add the diced onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
- Stir in the canned tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.
- Bring the sauce to a simmer and cook, stirring occasionally, for 25-30 minutes.
- Use an immersion blender or transfer the sauce to a blender and blend until smooth.
- Taste and adjust the seasoning as needed.
- Serve the sauce over pasta, use it as a pizza topping, or store it in the refrigerator for later use.
Notes:
For a chunkier sauce, skip the blending step and break up the tomatoes with a wooden spoon.
